Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung
Die Kunsthalle in München ist die wichtigste und bekannteste Einrichtung der Hypo-Kulturstiftung. Das Ausstellungshaus in der als Fußgängerzone ausgewiesenen Theatinerstraße befindet sich in zentraler Innenstadtlage.
Seit der Eröffnung des Hauses 1985 wurden hier über 90 Ausstellungen gezeigt. Im Jahr 2001 bezog die Kunsthalle neue Räume im Areal der »Fünf Höfe«, das von den renommierten Schweizer Architekten Herzog und de Meuron entworfen und realisiert wurde. Rund 1.200 m² Ausstellungsfläche sind mit modernster Museumstechnik und einem ausgefeiltem Beleuchtungssystem ausgestattet.
Maßgebend für das Ausstellungsprogramm sind höchste Qualität und Themenvielfalt. Das Spektrum reicht von der Vor- und Frühgeschichte (5.000 v. Chr.) bis in die unmittelbare Gegenwart. Auch Grenzgebiete der Kunst, frühgeschichtliche und außereuropäische sowie interdisziplinäre Themen werden hier immer wieder realisiert, zuletzt zum Beispiel »Königsgräber der Skythen«. Im Zentrum stehen jedoch Kunstausstellungen von Alten Meistern, wie »Venedig - Malerei des 18. Jahrhunderts«, »Madame de Pompadour«, »Italienische Stillleben« oder »Frans Hals und Haarlems Meister der Goldenen Zeit«, bis zur Klassischen Moderne, unter anderen Chagall, Gauguin, Giacometti, Kirchner, Magritte, Monet, Munch, Nolde, Picasso oder Mark Rothko. Aber auch Zeitgenössisches, zum Beispiel »Loop - Alles auf Anfang« oder »Zurück zur Figur - Malerei der Gegenwart«, hat seinen festen Platz in der Kunsthalle.

The "Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung" (the Kunsthalle of the Hypo-Cultural Foundation) opened to the public in 1985, and is the best known and principal entity of the Hypo-Cultural Foundation. Located in the very heart of Munich, this splendid exhibition venue presents three major art shows per year, which are seen by some 300,000 visitors on average. In 2001, the Kunsthalle moved into the new premises in a building complex called "Die Fünf Höfe" (The Five Courtyards), designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, offering 1200 m2 state-of-the-art gallery space.
High artistic quality and thematic variety have always been the guiding force in establishing the exhibition programme, which has included art dating from prehistoric times up to the present day. Archeological exhibitions have presented ancient Egypt, China and the Scythians. Interdisciplinary shows treated themes like Water, or the influence of European artists on the early Disney animated movies. The core of the exhibition programme, however, is based on western art including works by Old Masters such as Dürer, Hals or Caravaggio, up to classical modern art, featuring painters like Chagall, Gauguin, Giacometti, Kirchner, Magritte, Munch, Picasso and Rothko. Monographic shows or thematic presentations on Romanticism, Jugendstil or Orientalism cover a large spectrum of styles, materials and artists.
