Über eine Million Fotos, 16.000 Plakate, an die 20.000 Kostüm und Architekturskizzen und Kopien von mehr als 13.000 Filmen werden in den Archiven der Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek aufbewahrt. Ein Teil davon ist seit Herbst 2000 im Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz ausgestellt. Die futuristischen Set-Entwürfe zu Fritz Langs METROPOLIS (1927), Marlene Dietrichs Singende Säge oder Kostüme aus Fatih Akins GEGEN DIE WAND (2004) erzählen von der Faszination deutscher Filmgeschichte. Im Jahr 2006 eröffnete neben der Ständigen Ausstellung Film ein Pendant zur deutschen Fernsehgeschichte – eine in Europa einzigartige Kombination beider Medien unter einem Dach.

Der Berliner Unterwelten e.V. möchte einer breiten Öffentlichkeit den Einblick in den Untergrund unserer Stadt ermöglichen. Dafür haben wir im März 1998 den „Bunker B“ im U-Bhf. Gesundbrunnen von der BVG angemietet. Aufgrund des authentischen und für Berlin einmaligen Erhaltungszustandes ist es uns bereits im Herbst 1999 gelungen, für diese historische Anlage Denkmalschutz zu erwirken. Mehr als 10.000 Arbeitsstunden wurden seither durch die aktiven Vereinsmitglieder ehrenamtlich geleistet, das Bauwerk wird von uns kontinuierlich weiter hergerichtet und rekonstruiert. Der Verein finanziert all dies ausschließlich selbst.

Since June 2010, the Direktorenhaus is the new, central venue for Berlin’s design and art scene. Not limited by just aesthetic value, here traditional art and craft methods are coupled with analogue technology and digital media in exhibitions. Artists, designers and researchers come to the Direktorenhaus to collaborate across disciplines,merging ideas and principles of many fields. From fine art to various applied arts practices such as illustration, glass, ceramics to the product design and new artistic strategies - all in pursuit of creative insights that improve our world. The Direktorenhaus's scientific and cultural missions are supported by philanthropic individuals and foundations, forward-thinking partner companies, and government agencies.

The Berlin Biennale is the forum for contemporary art in one of the most attractive cities for art. Taking place every other year at changing locations throughout Berlin it is shaped by the different concepts of well-known curators appointed to enter into a dialogue with the city, its general public, the people interested in art as well as the artists of this world. The German capital is continuously under change thus remaining fragmented, diverse and contradictory. It is this particular mixture of high contrasts and a relaxed manner defining Berlin side by side that does not only attract international artists, many of whom choose Berlin as their base and place for production. Every two years the Berlin Biennale explores artistic developments to present the unseen and the unfamiliar before the background of this inspiring atmosphere. In 1998 the 1st Berlin Biennale took place founded on the initiative of Eberhard Mayntz and Klaus Biesenbach – founding director of the Kunst-Werke Berlin –, in order to promote a repesentative and international forum for contemporary art in Berlin. Since the year 2004 the KW Institute for Contemporary Art has been the supporting organization of the Berlin Biennale. Its significance for the cultural landscape is reflected in the patronage granted by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation).
