Il-62 Leipzig
The Ilyushin was handed over to the INTERFLUG (East German airline) on
10/04/1974 and placed out of service in March 1989. After the changes in
East Germany the machine was left at Leipzig airport and used for
training purposes (fire fighting, de-icing). Left in a desolate state
the restaurateur Bernd Grell bought the plane in January 2011 and got it
transported to a location in town (it had to be partly disassembled for
this, e.g. wings off). Since then the aircraft has been restored at an
enormous expense and turned into a restaurant and museum.
